Bringing FAIR data to the classroom
Bringing FAIR data to the classroom
Plant biologists are competent users of biological databases and repositories for managing their own data. However, few understand how such databases are built and maintained, much less how to share their data and find, access, and reuse existing data. There is a strong need to educate current and future researchers about these tools so they can benefit and participate in community-based data sharing.
The AgBioData Education working group developed an open-access educational curriculum that introduces the biological database and repository ecosystem and recommendations for related data that follow the FAIR — findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable — data principles. This workshop will feature lesson modules of the curriculum on (i) an introduction to the plant biology FAIR database ecosystem, (ii) instructions on how to find and download data, and (iii) an introduction to academic library resources for data and research. This workshop will interest both plant biology researchers and educators who use or want to learn more about biological databases and repositories.
